Description: One of the Tomorrow
Knight's earliest foes returns to settle a score with him.
Highs: Smooth animation, high-powered action scenes, weird yet cool storyline,
Bruce in the Batsuit!
Lows: The final fight has a dead giveaway as to how Inque will be defeated. Odd
ending sequence.
Overall: An excellent return of an excellent villain.
In the time since "Black Out", Inque has been incarcerated in a cryogenics facility.
An employee there falls in love with her frozen body and is caught kissing her
on tape. His supervisors don't take kindly to this type of behavior, and he is
subsequently fired.
Looking for revenge, he releases Inque from her icy imprisonment, and she does
the rest to break free. Terry tries to stop her with the Freeze gun, but this
time he's not so lucky and his weapon is destroyed.
Later, the ex-cryogenics worker is surprised to find Inque lurking in his home.
It turns out that she knows of his obsession, but wants to strike a deal with
him. She can't become humanoid again--apparently being frozen has taken that ability
away. She enlists his help in breaking into a chemical plant to steal materials
needed to cure herself. The worker, in exchange for helping her, wants to gain
Inque-powers of his own. Terry of course gets in the way...but that's not the
half of this story.
There's plenty about this episode that makes it a standout. The animation with
Inque is once again very fluid, you can almost believe that she is a talking pool
of liquid. The action sequences are very, very, intense, especically one where
Inque takes on a spider-like form and chases Terry through a maze of pipelines
and corridors. Terry gets beat up quite a bit here, after getting smashed into
walls by Inque, her accomplice slams Terry's face with a mechanical claw, with
blood dripping out his mouth afterwards.
After the big brawl, Terry is held hostage by Inque. Bruce doesn't want to abandon
Terry, so he decides to come to the sports arena where Terry is being kept. Inque
expects to kill him off just as easily, but Bruce has a secret weapon...the batsuit!
This must be another one of his experimental models, it expands from under his
clothing and forms a metallic suit of armor that enhances his strength. As Bruce
and Inque battle, a pumped up BTAS theme plays in the background. Awesome!!
How Inque loses can be deduced ahead of time, as there is a rainstorm going on
outside during the final fight. With some help from Inque's liquified assistant
(who looks extremely creepy since he only was given half the treatment), Terry
manages to break free. Inque shows no remorse towards the worker, showing that
she has absolutely no morals. Terry wastes no time getting the water to Inque,
and that ends the threat. Terry tells Bruce that he's glad his mentor didn't stay
retired tonight, concluding this episode.
This ep was nothing short of incredible. Although I hadn't expected Bruce to don
the batsuit again in Season 1, it was still a welcome treat. The end scene with
the employee makes this ep go out on a light note, I'm not sure if that was such
a great thing. But still, "Disappearing Inque" is a must-see event.
